Hin Daeng & Hin Muang

Manta Rays, Whalesharks and the Big Blue..

Ask anybody who has scuba dived Hin Daeng and Hin Muang, incuding professional dive guides, and they will all state that these two dive sites have some of the best diving in Thailand.

Divers are drawn here by the promise of seeing Whalesharks and Manta Rays and while there is no such thing as guaranteed sightings, the deep, upwelling water and remoteness of the pinnacles, does create a favourable location for big pelagics to hang out.

The 2 hour trip from Ao Nang, Krabi to the pinnacles of Hin Daeng and Hin Muang by speedboat is well worth the sometimes bumpy ride, for apart from a very real chance of seeing Manta Rays and the biggest fish in the ocean, the deep, blue waters contain a wealth of marine life, and visibility is consistently exceptional at 35m plus. On good days, you can see straight down to the bottom of the deepest wall dive in Thailand, to depths of over 60m.

Diving Hin Daeng

Hin Daeng is an oasis of life in the middle of the sea, gorgonian lined alleyways lead to a colourful, soft coral encrusted reef teeming with many species that are uncommon on the closer islands. If you are lucky, from the surface you may even spot Marlin leaping from the water, pods of dolphins and false minke whales. .

Take your time and enjoy the dive and if you get the chance dive Hin Daeng again as there will be much you have missed.

Diving Hin Muang

Hin Muang is a few hundred metres north of Hin Daeng and is covered in Purple soft corals, hence it's name. It is another deep site favoured by large Pelagics and it is common to see large groups of Manta Rays here, sometimes 5 or more, and often 6 metres in length from wingtip to wingtip. Hin Muang is technically one 200m long pinnacle, that is only 20m wide, however it's numerous ledges, holes and rocky outcrops are home to virtually every marine creature found in Thailand.

We have had divers quite content to spend an hour on the buoyline marvelling at the show put on by the playful mantas, however we do encourage divers to explore this treasure chest of South East Asian marine life and if you can, bring a camera.
